Cinema of Resistance

Cinema of Resistance

The Doc Society Fund is dedicated to cinematic non-fiction storytelling that uncovers the architecture of power: the systems, structures, and ideologies driving our global present in a time of rising authoritarianism and political entropy, stories that help us imagine the better futures we all deserve.
What kind of stories will we be looking for?

  • Stories that invite us to be brave, that show us we are not alone.
  • Stories that remind us we deserve the futures we dream of.
  • Stories that challenge dominant narratives and hold space for complexity.
  • Stories that protect the dignity of participants and communities in how they’re made, how they’re framed, how they’re shared.
  • Stories that interrogate and expose structures of power, and stories that center love and hope as acts of resistance.
  • In a time when truth is under siege, we back the filmmakers who will speak it, beautifully and without compromise, with clear artistic vision and bold cinematic ambition.
  • We are prioritising long form documentary film, from early production through early in the edit, and are looking forward to working with makers from all over the world.
What is the process?
Our team is busy scouring markets and festivals, talking to makers and comrades in cultural organisations, broadcasters and funds around the world.
You can get your project on our radar by submitting an Expression Expression of Interest (EOI) on our application portal.

We are making granting decisions 3 times per year. We aim to get back to all projects submitting through the EOI within three months.

You are welcome to submit more than one project, but please submit one EOI for each project.

A Note About Timing…

We are making granting decisions 3 times per year. While there is technically no “open” or “closing” date for submissions, we do have an internal timeline that might help you decide when is a good time to submit your Expression of Interest (EOI).

Cycle 2, 2026

If you submit an EOI by May 18 you will be considered for this cycle. We’ll be inviting select EOIs to submit a full application.

We’ll then be moving through our internal consideration process. We aim to have final granting decisions decisions for Cycle 2 by the end of August.

Cycle 3, 2026

If you submit an EOI between May 19 and September 9, you’ll be considered for this cycle. We’ll invite select EOIs to submit a full application.

We will then be moving through our internal consideration process. We aim to have final granting decisions for Cycle 3 by the end of November.
