FILMS FOR IMPACT

Doc Society has developed the Big Tech Narrative Initiative (BTNI) as a cohort of films that address, from a diversity of perspectives, the impact on society of Big Tech--a handful of powerful corporations whose business model is reshaping society.

WHO IS THE AUDIENCE

You are. As are members of your organization, institution or group. Among the most affected by Big Tech and who can benefit from being involved in the conversation around design, development and deployment are the following groups:

  • Workers
  • Youth
  • Educators

Those who can also participate in ensuring that technologies are the least harmful are:

  • Researchers
  • Legislators and policymakers
  • Developers

All of these groups must be brought together in discussion.

WHY THIS CAMPAIGN

Big Tech, a handful of powerful corporations building technologies based on computing, datasets and algorithms, has been re-shaping information ecosystems, social relationships, and politics. They have begun to redefine the narrative of human society, in some ways that are alarming and harmful. It is possible for all citizens to participate in how the narrative and the reality unfold. These films are critical tools to help us do so.

PARTNER WITH US

Join the campaign. Bring these films to your members, students, community to guide discussion and action.

Your organization or group can choose among the six films, or select all six, to design your own in-person or virtual screenings and discussion. We can provide promotional material and a discussion guide.

Or you can bring people to attend the events organized by us. We can provide our calendar of upcoming screenings upon request.

HOW TO USE THE FILMS

We suggest a variety of ways in which the films can be screened, individually, as group or in a pairing, according to your organization’s and community’s needs and interests.

  • Participate in a screening event organized by Doc Society, in person or online. We are currently preparing a few dates. Contact us for a calendar of events.
  • Design a screening tour with your organization’s branches, to show one, two or all the films in different communities where you work.
  • Organize a screening for your members, at a conference, in a school or in a local venue. Choose one film, or a pair. We will provide promotional and discussion materials.
  • Attend a screening with your members, teachers, or students organized by the filmmakers themselves. A calendar of events will be provided upon request.

We welcome any other ideas that you may have. For more information: btni@docsociety.org
